Everyone has a spark that bridges who we are and what we've yet to do.

However, it's not always easy to acknowledge the potential we have. When we do, we sometimes have a hard time setting it free. The feeling of being stuck in routines that don't work for us nor give us the joy of seeing efforts returned could feel like an invisible trap, discouraging us from exploring what we've yet to learn, what opportunities lie ahead of us, or what we could grow from— crucial things we need to experience to be better yet truest versions of ourselves.

In case you need help finding ways to channel your inner potential and start seeing it take full effect on your progress, try these simple steps:

The Power of Recognition

It always starts with this. It might be a tendency for us to seek approval or praise from our peers to take pride in our best traits, but seeing it for ourselves could take our actions to the next level.

The reason? We can’t always expect a pat on the back, and often, people restrict themselves from verbalizing our shining moments. We have ourselves to not out those moments. Recognition from others won't always be a sustainable choice, but allowing ourselves to verbalize our best traits is one thing we could always do often and freely.

If you're someone who needs a jumping-off point, start with these questions:

  1. Where do I feel the most accomplished? Happy?

  2. What skills or values shine the most when I do them?

  3. How do I use those in my everyday life? Which ways could I sprinkle those traits even more?

Making Space for Mistakes

So often, when we think of progress, we correlate it with rigor and do everything to a tee to ensure we get the results we want in record time.

However, that mindset could do more harm than we intentionally set it out to be. Not allowing the space to make mistakes or explore what's unknown confines us to where we are now. Unmoving, without making space for learning. When we graciously open ourselves up to the fact that our journey won't always be perfect or within our control, we open ourselves up to seeing how we work our way out or develop a way of seeing things.

The key is always to make space for it. There's no need to put unnecessary pressure on ourselves to not experience the ebbing and flowing our journeys come with. We're sure it could even bring out what we've yet to discover within ourselves.

Reaching Out, Opening Up

Whenever we think of being the truest, better versions of ourselves, we feel like it's always a road we have to take alone.

That is why setting the task of setting our potential free always hits a dead-end when we feel like we've been ticking all the boxes. However, there's a great joy in being able to admit to ourselves that there are skills, lessons, and experiences we could pick up when we open up to learning and sharing them with others.

When we reach out to and open ourselves to safe, open communities that support and celebrate who we are, or even ones that challenge our thinking, we get a bigger and better perspective of the world and how we want to take part in it. Finding that sense of belonging and where we want to belong sets a tone for how and where we want to channel our potential— and it only gets easier to do when we're among those who allow us to learn from and experience the journey with them.
